The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) has announced a new strategic partnership with Laurelo Probate Ltd, introducing SAIF Probate – in partnership with Laurelo, a dedicated service designed to support families with probate and estate administration following bereavement.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to improving the experience of bereaved families by extending care beyond the funeral, ensuring practical support is available at a time when families need it most.
With over 900 independent funeral director members across the UK, SAIF continues to evolve its offering to support both its members and the families in their care. This partnership introduces a trusted, transparent and compassionate probate solution, aligned with the values of independent funeral directors.
Extending care beyond the funeral
Following a funeral, families are often left facing complex decisions around probate and estate administration and frequently without clear guidance or support. SAIF Probate aims to bridge that gap. Delivered by Laurelo, the service provides:
- Free advice for families
- Transparent fixed-fee probate services
- Dedicated case managers offering ongoing, personal support
- Clear, jargon-free guidance at every stage
Laurelo’s model is built around face-to-face support, clear communication and a strong emphasis on compassion, reflecting the same principles that underpin independent funeral directing.
A service built on recognised standards of care
Laurelo’s approach to client care has been formally recognised through the Hospice UK Compassionate Employers Programme, where the business has achieved Gold Award status following a year-long assessment.
This accreditation reflects Laurelo’s commitment to embedding compassion into every aspect of its service from how families are supported, to how its team is trained and cared for internally.
The business is continuing to build on this work, progressing towards the Gold Standard Framework for compassionate care again this year, ensuring that its service continues to evolve in line with best practice in bereavement support.
Alongside this, Laurelo’s ongoing partnership with the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) reflects a wider commitment to supporting communities with specialist needs, and delivering trusted, high-quality probate support to those who have served.
A natural extension of the funeral director’s role
The partnership enables SAIF members to offer a seamless continuation of care, supporting families not just through the funeral, but through what comes next.
Funeral directors are often the first point of trust for families navigating loss. SAIF Probate provides a clear, reliable pathway for those families when probate questions arise, without placing additional burden on funeral directors themselves.
No prior knowledge of probate is required. Members can simply introduce Laurelo, who will guide families through their individual circumstances and, where appropriate, provide support or signposting.
Leadership comments
Terry Tennens, Chief Executive of SAIF, said:
“Our members are committed to delivering the highest standards of care to bereaved families. This partnership with Laurelo strengthens that commitment, ensuring families have access to trusted support when they need it most. SAIF Probate provides a valuable extension of the care our members already provide.”
Michael, Founder of Laurelo, said:
“We’ve always believed probate should be delivered with the same compassion, clarity and personal approach as the funeral itself. This partnership with SAIF allows us to support more families, working alongside funeral directors who share that same moral compass.”
Emma, Co-Director of Laurelo, added:
“We have modelled our service on the standards set by independent funeral directors, putting families first, being present, and communicating clearly. Achieving recognition through Hospice UK and continuing to invest in compassionate care is a key part of that commitment.”
